Activist Network Training Sessions:

8. How to Upload a File and Create a Resource Training: upload, organize and tag resources so they can be efficiently collected as a resource library
9. Event Training: how to create events for your individual profile or for your team, inviting people to them, and even a little bit about insurance and best practices.

Resources for Activist Network Infrastructure
— Meetings of the Activist Network Training Team are held reguarly, usually on Thursday
— Rollout Brainstorming: rationale, strategy, and tracking of the rollout of the Activist Network (we have nearly 100% National Issue Team participation, and now are reaching out to Chapters and Groups)

How You Can Help

Opportunity #1: Ask a friend to join the network! Encourage them to check out a team, read a blog, or leave a comment. You can give them this intro PDF or just email them a link to your favorite activist issue. This is easy to do in Facebook or on Twitter using the "share" buttons throughout this site, but you can just copy the link and send it in an email, too. Here are instructions for Facebook.

Opportunity #2: Provide Feedback, Comments and Questions work directly with activists. Rate their blog! Suggest a recent news item in their blog. Ask them a question on their comment page. Be our guests - and let us know what you think!

Option #3: Become a Trainer Are you interested in how this online community works, how offline team building and activism work, and have a desire to engage with members that may have little experience online? Time commitment: a couple hours per week, primarily through conference calls and email. This is a great chance to learn about social networking. Whether you're a geek, a grassroots door-to-door type, or just tipping in your toe we've got a role for you.

Opportunity #4: Hot or Not? Work with users of our online community to compile and regularly tweak a list of "what works/what doesn't" that can be shared with others, to increase effectiveness of this tool. Time commitment: a few hours per month, primarily through email.

I just posted a blog entry re: Convio use. I'll be talking with staff member Ashley Allison later today about featuring more Convio resources on the Activist Network. John also has started a project so that we can work with staff member Cara Longpre on using the Convio system ourselves. Whoo hoo!

I don't think we're really disagreeing with each other, Bob. The only point I'm trying to make is that by our showing them how to use all the tools on the site, they are then empowered to make their own decisions on which tools to use, and how. If Team A prefers the blog and Team B the Forum, what does it matter to us, as long as they're being effective?

Kirstin, I have coached a number of basketball and soccer teams, from little kids to adults. Part of the coaching is "giving them the tools" or skills to play the game. Another part is showing them how to use those tools in concert, as a team. If you just give people tools, and don't show them how to use them, both individually and as part of a team effort directed towards a common goal, then they get frustrated and the teams are ineffective. I view our role as being coaches.
