Global Green Economy Campaign

The Sierra Club’s Green Economy Campaign promotes a green economy at the local, national, and international levels that provides green jobs for all. We recognize that quality green jobs in a new clean energy economy can revitalize communities locally and around the world.
Creating a fair global trading system, including meaningful and enforceable environmental and labor standards, is central to the ability of communities to provide for themselves and protect their environment. Trade holds the potential to be a powerful tool to achieve new levels of sustainable development and promote solutions to climate change.

National Weatherization Day - Phoenix, AZ

On October 24th, Congressman Ed Pastor and Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon led a  “Go Green and Save” event at the University Public School Phoenix, featuring Green Kits, raffles and workshops. Workshops focused on weatherization programs, simple steps to reduce carbon footprints at home and at work, ways to recycle and reduce pollution, alternatives for safer products, tips on greening neighborhoods, proper waste disposal, and starting community gardens. The city’s weatherization program, Arizona Public Service, the Salt River Project, Southwest Gas Corp, and the Sierra Club were on hand to provide information about weatherization and energy efficiency.

The event was a great success, attracting a crowd of about 600 attendees.

“It was a fun event and people came armed with great questions and really wanted to learn how to be more energy efficient – and save money too,” said Sandy Bahr, Chapter Director, Sierra Club’s Grand Canyon (Arizona ) Chapter.

The event also provided an opportunity to create new partnerships; the Sierra Club connected with teachers from local grade schools who are interested in spreading the word about energy efficiency to their students and education a new generation in the possibilities of a clean energy economy.
