Coal causes harm at every stage of processing: from mine to power plant and earth to sky, coal pollution poisons our lungs and hearts, and threatens our biosphere. It's in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the earth that provides our food. And although coal is the biggest contributor to global warming in the US, we continue to rely on it for half our electricity needs.
Beyond Coal is one of six Sierra Club
Climate Recovery Partnership campaigns.
Coal Country House Parties:
Thanks to you we had over 900 house parties and over 3,000 people gathering to watch
Coal Country. If you were one of the many who participated, we'd love to hear how it went. Please take a moment to add your photos to our gallery or add a comment below to let us know how it went.
Right now only a handful of sources, including coal power plants, are responsible for more than half of all the global warming pollution in the United States. It's time to hold these mega-polluters responsible for their share of the dirty air.
